2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe: A practical beauty

The 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door is the third model exclusive to AMG.

The bigger GT variant follows the SLS and GT two-seater sports cars as the only vehicles to date developed entirely by AMG.

AMG will offer three different drivetrain configurations in the GT 4-door. The range-topping 63 S features a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 making 630 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.

The 63 occupies the middle of the lineup also using a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, but with 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 serves as the base model with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine producing 429 horses and 384 pound-feet. That works with a mild hybrid system that provides an additional 21 horsepower of off-the-line muscle.

All three drivetrains bolt up to a nine-speed automatic transmission. 

The 63 S is capable of hitting 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 195 mph.

The base 53 model is no slouch either, hitting 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and top speed of 174 mph.

To up handling prowess, the 63 S receives rear-wheel steering, rear-axle limited-slip differential and air springs with adaptive dampers. All models feature a variable 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, too.

The V8-powered GT 4-door models will go on sale during the first quarter of 2019, while the six-cylinder will arrive later on in the US during the second quarter.
