The 2019 BMW X3 sips gas, but guzzles cash

The 2019 BMW X3 has been on sale in its current third generation since the 2018 model year. 

The X3 first went on sale in the US for the 2004 model year. 

The compact luxury crossover SUV is offered with either rear- or all-wheel drive and four- or six-cylinder power.

The X3's turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The available 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder pumps 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. 

All X3s route their power through an eight-speed automatic transmission. 

Inside the X3, there's a standard 6.5-inch, iDrive-controlled touchscreen that's upgradable to 10.3 inches.

There's enough room for up to five passengers in the BMW X3. 

Cargo capacity is 28.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 62.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. 

All X3s come standard with collision-mitigation braking and a driver focus monitor. 

In its most efficient form, the X3 returns an EPA-estimated 23 miles per gallon city and 30 mpg highway. 

Base prices range from $41,000 for the X3 sDrive30i to $54,650 for the X3 M40i.
