2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA: More performance comes at a price
Subaru finally brings a limited-edition WRX STI to the US boasting more power and sharper handling accompanied by a hefty price tag.
The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA is currently on its way to dealers in the US. Only 500 units will be sold in 2018.
On the outside, the Type RA will feature a carbon fiber roof, a carbon fiber pedestal wing and 19-inch BBS forged alloy wheels.
The 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder sees output increase to 310 horsepower thanks to a new cold air intake, performance exhaust, retuned ECU and stronger pistons.
The six-speed manual transmission receives a revised third gear ratio and short throw shifter.
Suspension upgrades consist of Bilstein dampers.
Like all WRX STI models for 2018, the Type RA also features stronger brake calipers and larger cross-drilled rotors in all corners.
Type RA stands for "Record Attempt."
The cabin of the Type RA boasts Recaro seats with red bolsters and accent stitching.
Subaru's Starlink infotainment system comes standard on the Type RA with a 7-inch touchscreen display capable of running both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA starts at $48,995. Destination is an additional $860.
