2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe: Beauty and the Benz
Good looks meet confident performance in Mercedes-Benz new two-door E400 Coupe.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class family gains a new member with the launch of the 2018 E400 Coupe.
It's got two fewer doors, but is underpinned by the same modular platform as the sedan.
The coupe's profile is completely different. Also different are the contents of the two cars' engine bays.
The E400 Coupe is powered by a biturbo V6 engine displacing 3.0-liters, rather than the sedan's 2.0-liter I4.
Power is stated at 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, which reaches the road via a nine-speed gearbox and Benz's 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
The coupe will be available with Mercedes' full suite of driver aid technologies, including the Car-to-X communications framework.
There are three different suspension systems available to buyers: Fixed, adaptive dampers and adaptive air springs.
There are also four drive modes that affect the suspension, steering and throttle ranging from Eco to Sport Plus.
LED headlamps feature active steering and automatic high beams.
The E400's on-road demeanor is laid-back and relaxed with a compliant, but responsive ride and confident acceleration from the V6.
The nine-speed gearbox seems well tuned, but I'd avoid the Sport Plus mode on the street. It's just a bit too harsh and unpredictable.
The 2018 E400 Coupe starts hitting Mercedes-Benz dealerships later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced.
