2018 Detroit Auto Show debuts: All the new cars, trucks, and concepts

The RDX arrived in Detroit with a new look and loads of tech.

Under the hood is the same 2.0-liter turbo I4 found in the Accord.

The interior sports a NSX-like dashboard with a unique touchpad controller.

This was truly the year of the truck in Detroit.

The new Silverado debuted on a diet, weighing some 450 pounds less than it did the year before.

You can also get it with an inline-6 diesel engine, which will pit it squarely against the new F-150 diesel.

Ford revised its entire Edge lineup for the 2019 model year.

The outside sports a new look that's not too different than the old one.

This is only a mid-cycle refresh -- a new generation won't come along for a few more years, still.

The biggest Edge-related news was the introduction of the Edge ST.

This enthusiast-friendly crossover uses a 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine.

It puts out a whopping 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

Ford debuted a new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel V6 for its F-150.

It puts out 440 pound-feet of torque, which you could totally call ample.

Ford surprised the crowd in Detroit by introducing the new Mustang Bullitt.

It relies on the same underpinnings as the new GT Performance Pack, but it bumps up the power and adds some unique aesthetic bits.

Yep, there's a Bullitt badge on the steering wheel and a proper cue-ball shifter.

Last year, Ford announced that it would bring a new Ranger to the US. This year, it arrived.

Sporting just a single engine for now -- a 2.3-liter turbo I4 -- the Ranger is set to compete with the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma.

There's a Raptor variant available elsewhere in the world, so let's hope that it comes here, too.

Honda's Insight Prototype is a very thinly veiled preview of the new Civic Hybrid replacement.

It relies on a 1.5-liter gas I4 mated to Honda's two-motor hybrid system.

The automaker is hoping for 50 mpg when the Insight goes on sale later this year.

Hyundai's Veloster grew up for 2019 with a slightly less quirky face.

Thankfully, the Veloster retained its odd third door.

The interior is like every other Hyundai, in that you get actual physical switchgear and a pretty large standard screen.

If the regular Veloster isn't doing it for you, say hello to the Veloster N.

This will be the first car that brings Hyundai's new N performance brand to the US.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 putting out 275 horsepower.

Infiniti knocked Detroit on its tuchus when it debuted the drop-dead gorgeous Q Inspiration concept.

A preview of things to come from Infiniti's design language, the car sports handsome curves inside and out.

You're probably not going to see an interior this wild on future Infiniti models, but expect at least some inspiration to be drawn from this.

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee received a mid-cycle refresh that took away its quirky good looks.

It's now a lot closer to the Compass and the Grand Cherokee than before. I guess nobody liked the dual-layer headlight setup.

Inside, it's just about the same as it was before, which is fine, because it's plenty nice as-is.

The 2019 Kia Forte -- well, the front end, at least -- draws a lot of inspiration from the new Stinger sport sedan.

Under the hood is a four-cylinder gas engine putting out 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, mated to a CVT.

An 8-inch display is standard, as is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept is a wild preview of a future Lexus flagship SUV.

There are ridiculous angles just about everywhere your eye can land.

The interior is even wilder, with screens and curves galore. That dashboard angle is brilliant.

One of the least-hyped debuts, but still a very important one nevertheless, was the introduction of a new AMG -53 lineup with a new straight-six engine.

With 429 horsepower on tap, the new I6 will enter the market with the CLS53 and E53... for now.

The G-Class was one of the biggest debuts at the show -- both literally and figuratively.

Sporting a new independent front suspension and improved capability, there's no doubt the G-Class remains the king of off-road SUVs.

The interior is way better than before, too, with an increased focus on legroom and other creature comforts that weren't present before.

Mini also quietly debuted a mid-cycle refresh for the 2019 Cooper Hardtop and Convertible.

Perhaps the best part of the whole refresh is the addition of Union Jack elements in the taillights.

The fuel gauge looks pretty neat, too.

The Cooper Hardtop retains its cartoonish good looks with its refresh.

Sometimes, it's wise not to mess with success.

Sure, the speedometer might not be in the middle anymore (it hasn't been for a while), but making room for a real infotainment system was sort of necessary.

Nissan's Xmotion concept is meant to preview a new generation of small Nissan crossovers.

Measuring some 4 inches shorter than the Rogue, it definitely is tiny, but its sharp angles and blocky good looks make up for its diminutive footprint.

The interior is a freakin' work of art, with a wooden center console connected using Japanese wood joinery techniques.

Rounding out the trucks of Detroit, we have the 2019 Ram 1500.

The Ram 1500 has an available 48-volt mild hybrid system for both its V6 and V8 engine options.

You can also option a massive 12-inch, portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system. Finally, a good use for that massive truck dashboard!

Toyota's taking some daring moves with its new sedans, the latest of which is the 2019 Avalon.

Sporting some much more aggressive looks, the new Avalon seeks to dump its car-for-old-people stereotype.

The interior is a bit busy in the center stack area, but on the whole, it's pretty straightforward and handsome.

If you love affordable, sensible transportation, you'll dig the 2019 Jetta.

It's got a handsome new exterior and it finally rides on the MQB platform that underpins the Audi A3, Audi TT and Volkswagen Golf.

Its 1.4-liter turbo I4 engine is a carryover from the previous generation.
