2017 Volvo V90 Cross Country conquers the ice

The Volvo V90 Cross Country was our chariot for some challenging driving winter conditions in northern Sweden.

That grille is also unique to the Cross Country.

The Cross Country is lifted 2.3 inches higher than the standard V90.

The rear of the V90 is one of its most attractive angles.

The black cladding around the wheels can also be ordered in body colour.

I took the all-wheel-drive system and the chassis for a spin out on the ice.

It was incredible how easy the car was to control on wet ice with little to no traction.

This is one handsome wagon.

I drove on studded tyres during my time with the car. A must in Scandinavian winter.

There will also be a diesel variant available in Europe.

Doesn't it just look at home in the wilderness?

Deep snow on ice wasn't even a serious obstacle.

It's hard to imagine many V90s spending a lot of their time out here, but it's good to know they can.

Volvo say the car is meant to appeal to those with active hobbies.

It can handle off-road terrain, but it's still reliable and comfortable on normal roads.

Our tan interior was a welcome addition.

The the layout of the car puts pertinent information in front of you when and where you need it.

Trunk space is plentiful.

The Sensus Connect system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

The vertical tablet-style screen is gorgeous and easy to navigate.

Off-Road mode is a new addition, designed to be activated when the going gets really tough.

The interior feels premium despite the affordable price.
