Take a gander at the 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk certainly has the Jeep off-road reputation behind it, but it's not the best driver's crossover on the pavement.

A four-cylinder engine is standard, but a 3.2-liter V6 power plant is available for an extra $1,745.

That larger engine produces 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. The Cherokee Trailhawk tips the scale at 4,000 pounds, so the larger engine is a welcome option.

The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The Cherokee Trailhawk gets a combined EPA fuel rating of 24 mpg, much less than the Toyota RAV4 at 28 mpg and the Subaru Crosstrek, at 33 mpg.

The crossover is a bit too heavy to be a driver's car, but the off-road suspension helps soak up the bumps of any broken pavement you might come across.

Sometimes, all you want is a nice set of Nappa leather seats and a tall-but-not-too-tall driving position. In that case, the Overland trim might be your bag.

It's got more luxury than the Trailhawk, but far fewer off-road goodies.
