2015 Lexus IS 250 (pictures)

The 2015 Lexus IS 250 is Lexus' entry-level sports sedan.

The L-Finesse design language is divisive. You'll either love it or hate it at first sight.

I didn't like the busy front end at first, but I'm starting to come around to accepting it.

The profile features a strong character line.

The interior is well-appointed and driver-centric.

Lexus' Enform app suite is starting to show its age, but still gets the job done.

Unlike the newer RC and NX models, the IS still makes use of Lexus' Remote Touch Controller.

The joystick's physicality was immensely preferable to a touchpad's weird haptic feedback.

The controller falls nicely in the hand.

Behind the fascia, you'll find the IS 250's 2.5-liter engine.

Rather than the I-4 that you'd expect for this displacement, Lexus uses a small V-6, which idles and revs more smoothly.

The standard configuration is a rear-wheel drive setup, but all-wheel drive is an option.

One of my biggest gripes about the IS 250 was its intrusive stability control system.

Instrumentation is simple and easy to read. A small display between the gauges displays auxiliary information.

Keyless entry and start are available on the IS 250. I'm a fan of the push-button system.

Optional 18-inch wheels improve the appearance and, potentially, improve the turn-in responsiveness.

The IS 250's ride is firm, but not punishing. It's a good setup for an entry sports sedan, but a firmer F-Sport package is available.

The driver-centric cabin features excellent materials for the touchpoints at the shifter, steering wheel and seat.

The IS interior has a strong horizontal theme with a high, wide dashboard.

The steering wheel has a chunky design that feels good in the hand.

The only transmission available is a six-speed automatic gearbox that features steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

The standard Lexus IS sport buckets are very comfortable and supportive, giving the driver a good base when cornering.

Enform navigation features voice command for destination entry and hands-free calling.

With the aid of a smartphone app, Enform also gives the driver access to Internet audio streaming, destination search and online reservations.

With a less obtrusive stability control system or the F-Sport upgrade, the IS 250 could be a great entry-point sports sedan. As is, however, it's still a competent cruiser and commuter.
