2011 Ford Edge (photos)
Ford showed off the latest version of its Edge Crossover at the Chicago auto show, featuring upgrades to the cabin tech interface and power plant choices.
Ford showed off the second generation of its Edge model at the Chicago auto show. This car fits into the crossover segment, providing better cargo capability and easier access than a sedan, but a more car-like driving experience than an SUV.
Although the Edge retains the same basic shape as the original version, it gets exterior styling updates all around. Note the hood, which hangs over the headlights and grille like a visor.
Ford announced three engine choices for the Edge, a 3.5-liter V-6, 3.7-liter V-6, and a turbocharged 2-liter four cylinder. The 3.7-liter V-6 will come standard on the Edge Sport, which will be a high trim car.
The Edge will be the first Ford model to feature the MyFord Touch system, a cabin tech interface comprised of an 8-inch center stack touch screen, and two 4.3 inch LCDs in the instrument cluster. MyFord Touch comes standard on the Edge Sport and Edge Limited.
Ford configured the steering wheel spoke buttons to control the corresponding LCD in the instrument cluster. The left screen shows trip and vehicle information, while the right screen shows navigation, audio, phone, and climate, mimicking the center stack display.
Opting for the premium Sony audio system in the Edge results in more than just improved amps and speakers; the car gets a customized Sony stereo interface featuring this large control knob.
