2010 Suzuki SX4 SportBack photos
Suzuki has had great success with its SX4 model, initially introducing it as an all-wheel-drive crossover with rally car ambitions, then rolling out front-wheel-drive city car variants. The latest version is the SportBack, meant to be a city car with some sporty aspirations.
Suzuki's SX4 was originally launched as a small crossover with all-wheel drive. Subsequent versions have included a front-wheel-drive sedan and even a rally car.
As a completely new model in 2005, the SX4 incorporates modern styling in a small design, although it doesn't communicate any specific Suzuki design language.
The SX4 SportBack is powered by a 2-liter four-cylinder engine, its 150 horsepower enough to move the small car quickly.
Large windows and a high roof mark the cabin of the SX4, allowing for good visibility and comfortable seating.
The preproduction car was equipped with some aftermarket suspension components that helped considerably in cornering.
With its hatchback, the SX4 SportBack adds practicality with its large cargo area.
Although tech is limited to a stereo in this model, current SX4 models come with a portable navigation device integrated with the car.
Steering wheel buttons let you control the stereo and cruise control.
A display between the speedometer and the tachometer shows instantaneous fuel consumption, and trains drivers to drive more efficiently.
The SportBack comes with a continuously variable transmission, which finds the precise ratio at any given moment for the most efficient operation.
The transmission has virtual shift points, which can be controlled with paddles on the steering wheel.
The stereo is fairly simple, merely including a CD player that can read MP3 tracks. But the production version of the car should include an integrated portable navigation device.
The sound system in the SportBack is fairly robust, with eight speakers, including a subwoofer and center channel.
