2010 Infiniti EX35 Journey (photos)
Infiniti's EX35 is a technological marvel. It has an array of driver aid features that should help prevent traffic and parking collisions. The EX35 is sporty, small crossover that is well-suited for urban environments.
Infiniti's EX35 looks like a smaller version of the FX35. The EX35 uses the same styling and engine as the FX35 has, and it has a similar seating arrangement; however, the EX35 a more compact vehicle.
Infiniti has established its design language well, extending it to the G and M sedans as well as the FX and EX crossovers. All of these models exhibit prominently curved fenders and a bubble-like roofline.
A 3.5-liter V-6 engine, producing 297 horsepower, powers the EX35. This is the same engine the company uses in many Infiniti and Nissan vehicles.
The cabin can handle five occupants, with room left over for luggage. The interior is not as large as with the FX35 is, so bringing four people on a road trip would be a stretch. For two people, it would be very comfortable ride.
The EX35 is available in rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive formats. We found that all-wheel-drive system gave the EX35 an edge in handling.
The EX35's cargo area is not as big as that in the FX35, but it is a reasonable size.
The EX35's cabin shows it has Infiniti's luxury quality with leather and wood trim elements.
The steering wheel holds buttons for the audio system and various driver aid features, including adaptive cruise control and the car's Distance Control Assistance.
Infiniti uses stylish gauges in the EX35, which contributes to the overall look of the car.
Infiniti equips the EX35 with a five-speed-automatic transmission, a little primitive in an era when six-speed transmissions are coming in to vogue. The lack of the a sixth gear means the engine has to run faster at freeway speeds.
We particularly like the Infiniti interface, which consists of a hardware knob, buttons, and a touch screen. It makes it easy to select items from the various screens.
The EX35's maps are stored on a hard drive, and show good detail. In 3D mode, some landmark buildings on rendered in detail.
The EX35's navigation system shows traffic information and uses the data to dynamically route around traffic jams.
Weather information is shown on the car's LCD. It includes the current weather, along with a forecast.
The EX35 audio system has iPod integration, letting you select music by artist, album, genre, and track.
The EX35's audio system supports Bluetooth streaming audio is also included, with controls for pausing and playing the audio stream.
The EX35 includes a capable voice command system to complement the touch screen and hardware controller.
The EX35's around-view camera system gives you a top-down view of the car. It also includes rear, front, and side views.
