2009 Infiniti G37 Coupe AWD--photos
Equally appealing to geeks and gearheads, the Infiniti G37 Coupe combines an athletic presence, a high level of performance, and a complete cabin tech package into a vehicle that's attractive from almost every angle.
Suit up
Although the 2009 Infiniti G37 features the same 3.7-liter heart as the Nissan 370Z, the vehicles serve different purposes. If the Z is an athlete, the G37 is that same athlete in a suit. Don't make the mistake of thinking it can't move, just because it's suited up.
Nissan design language
Viewed from the front, elements of Nissan's design language are evident, such as the encapsulated hood and swept-back headlamps.
Classic proportions
The G37 features the classic long hood, short deck coupe profile. Optional 18-inch wheels are available.
3.7-liter V-6
The 3.7-liter V-6 is a bored out version of Nissan/Infiniti's workhorse VQ-series engine, outputting 330 horsepower.
Firmly damped
The G's suspension features a dual flow path suspension that does double duty of remaining firm in the turns and soaking up bumps without drama. Some sort of adjustable suspension would be better, but this one does the job.
Sport-tuned exhaust
Out back, the G37 features LED tail lamps and a sport-tuned dual exhaust.
Rearview camera
At the base of the duck tail spoiler is the lens for the rearview camera.
Luxury interior
The G37's standard leather trimmed interior feels on par with the BMW 3 Series, which is the primary competitor. Wood trim is a $550 option.
Seven-speed automatic with Sport mode
The seven-speed automatic transmission features a Sport mode that holds the revs longer and blip rev-matches on the downshifts. Unfortunately, the slow shifts don't really fit with the G's sporty character.
Snow mode
As climates get colder, you'll be seeing a lot of this console. Here you'll find the heated seat controls and the switch to put the all-wheel drive system into snow mode, which evenly distributes power to all four wheels by default.
Power tilt, power steering
Our G37 featured power tilt and telescoping steering. The power steering is speed sensitive and gets heavier and more stable feeling as the vehicle accelerates.
Moving instrument cluster
The electroluminescent instrument cluster moves up and down with the steering wheel's tilt. Between the gauges lives a monochromatic multi-information display.
Hard-drive-based navigation
The navigation system is lightning fast, thanks to a quick hard drive serving up the data. POIs are easily searched through and routes are chosen almost instantaneously.
Predictive text entry
The entry screen can be configured in alphabetical or QWERTY order, and features a predictive text entry that autofills letters and blanks out keys that it thinks would be invalid.
iPod connection
The premium package includes a 30-pin iPod connection for purely digital access to your music.
Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling
Scrubbing through long lists of digital audio can be tedious. We'd like to see some way of jumping to a specific initial letter for faster seeking.
Information display
Under the information menu, instantaneous and historical fuel economy data and climate control information can be accessed.
XM radio
XM radio provides dozens of digital audio stations as well as the data for the navigation's traffic system.
Voice recognition
The voice command system features onscreen prompts to help you know what commands are acceptable.
Rearview camera
The rearview camera features guidelines for distance and steering preview, as well as a view of the trunk-mounted Infiniti badge.
