Waze to provide traffic data during LA Carmageddon
App developer Waze will partner with a Los Angeles television station to provide traffic data to its viewers during the July 15th 405 freeway closure.

Crowdsourcing meets broadcast during the July 15th weekend closure of the Los Angeles' 405 freeway, an event that has been dubbed the "Carmageddon" and is expected to cause traffic issues for as many as 500,000 drivers. Social traffic and navigation app Waze has announced a partnership with KABC-TV in Los Angeles to provide live maps, feedback of incidents, and traffic flow for the station's broadcasts.
For those unfamiliar with Waze, the smartphone app enables users to access free map and traffic data that is generated by other Waze users. Every handset running the app is essentially a data collection point, so users are actively contributing to the system's accuracy whenever they use the app. Waze's partnership with KABC-TV will give the station hundreds of virtual eyes on the road during the closure of the 10 mile stretch of the 405 freeway while giving Waze exposure to the station's viewership.
