If 500 horsepower seems a little miserly of Porsche for its Panamera Turbo, don't worry--the carmaker released its personalization program that bumps up the horsepower to 540. But the additional 40 ponies over the standard Turbo model don't come cheap--the Panamera Turbo Powerkit runs about $21,730.
For the money, you'll get two new turbochargers with titanium aluminum turbines, engine management modifications that improve engine response, and increased torque. The option will be available next month, but if you've already pulled the trigger on your Panamera Turbo, retrofit kits will be available in November.
Paying the price of a small car (midsize if it's a Hyundai) for 40 extra horsepower may seem like a lot, but think of all the time you'll save! In Sport Plus mode, which is included in the Sport Chrono Turbo Package that is part of the Panamera Turbo Powerkit, the package saves .1 second off the plain vanilla Panamera Turbo's 0-60 of 3.9 seconds.
But there are less expensive ways to pimp your Panamera.
Porsche is also releasing in October a Sport Design Package that includes a unique, exterior color painted front fascia with widened black air intake grilles, rear underbody apron with diffuser and fins. Optional side skirts are available for $1,390.
Or you can opt for the 20-inch Panamera Sport wheels. The light alloy multispoke wheels are 9.5 inches wide on the front axle and 11.5 inches on the rear axle, and are available in GT silver metallic, black, or in the exterior car color. But remember, the colors only need to "go together"--you don't want to be too matchy-matchy.
