Order books are open for the Mazda MX-5 RF Launch Edition

Only 1,000 examples will be built, and all you need right now is a refundable $500 deposit.

McDonald's had it wrong all along -- these are the only arches that matter.

Online orders have opened for the latest Mazda MX-5, and the ordering process gives us our first look at how much the MX-5 RF will cost.

The only variant available right now is the MX-5 RF Launch Edition, which can be ordered through Mazda's website with a $500 refundable deposit. It will start at $33,850 with a six-speed manual transmission, or $34,925 with a six-speed automatic. Delivery begins in February and will continue through the spring.

The Launch Edition is based on the MX-5's top-tier Grand Touring trim. It receives a special paint job, Nappa leather interior trim and a black roof, the latter of the two being exclusive to US variants. The car will also come with keyless entry and start, which is an option on non-Launch Edition models. Buyers will also receive a 42-millimeter Tourneau watch, because why not?

Unlike the previous generation, the MX-5 RF doesn't feature a retractable hardtop -- instead, it's got a powered targa top that enthusiasts the world over are already geeking out over.

Of course, as with all good things, the Launch Edition won't last. Only 1,000 examples will be built, so you'll have to act fast if you want to place an order. There's still no word on what the non-Launch Edition RF will cost, or when it will be made available for purchase.
