The new Toyota Camry becomes just the sixth car in Australia, and easily the cheapest, to offer buyers the option of digital radio.
Available from late December, digital radio is standard on the top-of-the-range Atara SL model. The SL combines digital radio with a 7-inch touchscreen display, a 10-speaker JBL sound system capable of 5.1-channel surround sound, a CD player, reversing camera, Bluetooth hands-free and music streaming, as well as auxiliary and USB ports.
Also fitted to the SL is a satellite navigation system with live traffic updates, but not text-to-speech for spoken street names.
Unfortunately, the satellite navigation and digital radio-equipped head unit fitted to the Atara SL is not available as an option in the cheaper Altise, Atara S andmodels.
The new Camry Atara SL becomes the most affordable car to support the DAB+ standard used by Australian radio stations. Up until now the only cars to offer local buyers the option of digital radio were the, and , and models.
