Lexus will unveil new IS sedan at Beijing

Being three model years old at the moment, the brand's entry-level luxury sedan is due for a refresh, rather than a full-on new generation.

From what we can tell in the teaser, the next IS will come with headlights. That's a good thing, right?

Lexus

The Lexus IS is the brand's third best selling car, after the Camry-based ES sedan and the ubiquitous RX crossover. As a somewhat important member of the lineup, it's important for the IS to keep things fresh for newer buyers, especially those on the younger side. Thus, the brand will be rolling out a mid-cycle refresh for its three-year-old luxury sedan.

Lexus is keeping very, very mum on details at the moment. We know that it'll pack a design language that's closer to other new Lexus vehicles, like the refreshed GS, the new RX and the forthcoming LC sport coupe. In the teaser picture Lexus provided, it's clear the headlights will carry the same delineation between the turn signal and headlight assembly as it did before.

The company makes absolutely no mention of new technologies or equipment. Like, literally none. We told you Lexus was keeping the details to itself.

Last year, Lexus replaced its base 2.5-liter, six-cylinder engine with a turbocharged, four-cylinder unit, the same engine that appears on the NX compact crossover. If you're looking for a bit more power, you can upgrade to a 3.5-liter, six-cylinder engine. It's likely that both of these engines will stick around for the new car. We'll know more about the new IS once Beijing's press days kick off on April 25.
