Introducing your new Car Tech Blogger

An introduction to Cnet's newest car blogger and a small video to help you get to know me.

My name is Gary and I have recently been brought on board here at Cnet to share my enthusiasm for cars with you. To give you a little background about myself, I am originally from Dayton, Ohio. I have a father who really knows his cars. He's the kind of guy who can see a vintage car and tell me it's year, make and model - and nine times out of 10 he'd be right. Being in an automotive town (Dayton was home to a GM plant for decades), I grew up around a lot of people who were enthusiastic about cars.

One of my favorite cars that I've ever owned/driven is my 1988 Jaguar XJ6. Jaguar's aren't spotted all that often in Ohio (very pro-GM/domestic vehicle country), so anyone who drove a Jag seemed to have something special. And it was special - mine had dark, charcoal grey paint, sexy black leather interior and wood grain...ah, yeah! And even more important to me, it was arguably the SMOOTHEST ride of any vehicle I owned (maybe rivaled by my Caddy or Lincoln, but that's a different argument for a different time).

This video here shows a typical Sunday afternoon drive in an 88 Jaguar XJ6. While mine was not the Van Den Plas edition, I have driven one or two in my day and they're pretty damn nice as well. It's not the most exciting video per se, but the smooth glide of the car is well depicted here (not to mention the sometimes noisy shocks - a common problem of of the 88 XJ models that affected my Jag as well). I miss my Big Cat, so watching this video takes me back to the good ol' days of cruising around town and trying to impress the ladies. Relax and enjoy the ride!
