It used to be that the name Hyundai Sonata was more likely to upturn noses than turn heads, but with its new 2011 model, that may all be about to change.
The new Sonata SE is bigger, faster, and, well, swoopier than the outgoing model. Hyundai's newest sedan makes quite the first impression with its scuplted exterior and with its interior appointments. Hyundai also boosted the Sonata's cabin tech to pretty impressive levels as well with standard Bluetooth with audio streaming, standard USB/iPod connectivity, an available 360-watt premium audio rig, and an inexpensive touch-screen navigation option that's based on 8GB of solid-state storage and integrates traffic data from its standard XM satellite connection.
The Sonata's SE trim level strikes a nice balance between sporty appearance and bottom line value; however, with a more powerful turbo model and a fuel sipping hybrid model on the horizon, the Sonata is shaping up to be a strong alternative to Toyota's Camry, Honda's Accord, and Nissan's Altima.
