Hyundai's new Sonata hit the roads with an eye-catching design, but this midsize sedan has a lot more going on than mere looks. In hybrid form, it uses an advanced lithium polymer battery pack for its drive system that gives the car significant electric power boost. It will even switch to electric mode at speeds over 60 mph.
All of that hybrid goodness leads to high-30s fuel economy, according to EPA testing. The drive experience is very good, with effortless operation in even stop-and-go traffic. Not much of a sports car, this Hyundai Sonata Hybrid would make a very comfortable commuter.
Cabin electronics include an LCD with one of the most responsive touch screens we've seen. Navigation includes traffic, and the car can also show local weather forecasts, stocks, and sports scores. An Infinity audio system delivers very satisfying sound from sources as diverse as Bluetooth audio streaming, a USB drive, or an iPod.
