Honda jazzes up the City

Honda will slot the smaller-than-Civic City sedan into its Australian line-up from 2009.

Sydney Motor Show 2008 Honda will slot the smaller-than-Civic City sedan into its Australian line-up from 2009.

The new Jazz-based small sedan is due to go on sale here from February 2009. You can specify either a five-speed manual or automatic, but the 1.5-litre engine from the Jazz range will be standard.

The previous generation City (below) was only sold in Asia and was the ungodly marriage of a Jazz with a boot; the new version, on the other hand, features a unique, and good looking, body. Differentiation also extends to the dashboard, with the City featuring a simpler and more conventional layout.

Although the new City has already hit showrooms throughout Asia, Honda elected to show a "concept" version of the car at the Sydney show. Strip away the menacing Darth Vader headlights, too funky tail-lights and deep purple paint, add a pair of conventional wing mirrors and you practically have the real thing though.
