Hennessey will build you a 6x6 Ford Raptor because America
And with a starting price below $300,000, it's somehow a bargain in the face of the competition.
Prior to this week, if you wanted a six-wheeled SUV, you'd have to settle for Mercedes-Benz's G-Class 6x6. That's now changed, thanks to the madmen at Hennessey Performance, who will build you a Ford Raptor 6x6 at -- believe it or not -- a surprisingly competitive price.
Write a check to Hennessey for $295,000, and you'll get a VelociRaptor 6x6 in return. It sports a pair of locking rear axles, upgraded Fox suspension, different bumpers front and rear, LED lights aplenty and a set of 20-inch wheels and off-road tires. You still get a functional pickup bed and all the off-road accouterments that come with the standard Raptor, too.
If you are an insane person, you can opt for the VelociRaptor 600. This $22,500 kit upgrades the truck's twin turbochargers and adds a new exhaust, intercoolers and ECU tuning to bring output north of 600 horsepower. There are other options available, as well, including Brembo brakes, bigger wheels and tires, unique interior appointments and even "armoring systems." Yes, you can add armor.
While $295,000 might seem absolutely ludicrous for a truck that starts around $50,000, it's much cheaper than its German competition. The G-Class 6x6 starts around $630,000, converted from euros, and it's not available for purchase in the United States. If you want one, all you need to do is give Hennessey a ring -- maybe after robbing a couple banks.
