A fleet of Google's prototype robo-cars begin test drives on public roads this summer. Meanwhile, GeniCan promises to add smarts to your garbage can.

The Google pods are coming.

The company announced its fully self-driving cars are hitting public roads this summer. Google built 25 of the prototype vehicles which can handle the entire ride from start to finish, but will come with detachable steering wheels and pedals -- if a human needs to take over.
