When Ford debuted out the Focus Electric at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, the automotive industry's collective perception of CES shifted from a techy prelude to the main event in Detroit to a major forum for showcasing their bleeding edge technologies. Thanks to Ford, it can be argued that CES is the first car show of the year.

Which is why we're waiting with bated breath to see what Ford has in store this year at CES 2016. CNET will be on site, bringing you all the news, photos, video and commentary live from Ford's press conference at 7:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday.

Leading up to the show, Ford has already announced that it will be bringing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to its new Sync 3 infotainment platform -- which was debuted at last year's CES -- and a partnership with Toyota to develop and open their joint SmartDeviceLink platform to other automakers and developers. Those are already some pretty big revelations, so what could Ford be saving for its press conference?

The rumor mill points to further partnership with Google beyond Android Auto, but we're not sure to what end. Perhaps Ford's cooking up some new autonomous driving developments? Ford's pretty good at keeping its secrets close to its vest -- this is the automaker that totally surprised everyone with the fully-formed GT at Detroit last year -- so any guesses at this point are just rumors and speculation

We won't know for sure until tomorrow so stay tuned to CNET for our full coverage from CES 2016.
