If you want to know the future of Ferrari, you will have to wait until 2012. In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said 2012 is when the company will produce the supercar successor to the Enzo, and that this upcoming car will be the basis on which following Ferrari models are designed.
Going into detail, Montezemolo said the 2012 Ferrari supercar will use the hybrid technology shown off in the 599 hybrid concept at the 2010 Geneva auto show. This hybrid system uses a kinetic energy recovery system, commonly abbreviated as KERS, to cut emissions by 35 percent.
The new supercar will also be smaller than current models, demonstrating a weight-saving strategy on the part of Ferrari.
But don't expect Ferrari to trade speed for lower emissions. Montezemolo said that the new supercar "will incorporate the state of the art of our knowledge in terms of increasing performances, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions."
