Last week a car group in Tokyo drove an electric car 1003.184 kilometres on a single charge, breaking its own record for longest distance travelled without recharging.
The Japan Electric Vehicle Club has asked Guinness World Records to certify the event, held at a track in Shimotsuma in Ibaraki Prefecture last month.

The modified Daihatsu Mira ran on a Sanyo Lithium-ion battery pack containing more than 8320 batteries. The car ran for 27.5 hours at about 40km/h; 17 drivers took turns at the wheel.
Should the guys and girls at Guinness World Records recognise the 1000km run as a world record it will smash the previous record, a 555.6km journey from Tokyo to Osaka done in November 2009 by the same car club. It also doublesin a from Alice Springs to Coober Pedy at last year's Global Green Challenge.
