Cobra iRadar app now available for Android
Android compatibility is available for Cobra's iRadar detector with the release of the iRadar app in the Android Market.
Last year, we took a look at the Cobra iRadar detector and app for iPhone. Now Android compatibility is available for Cobra's device with the release of the iRadar app for Android, available for download in the Android Market.
The Cobra iRadar app for Android offers all of the standalone features that we saw when we tested the iOS version, including GPS warnings for known road hazards, traffic cameras, and speed traps using Cobra's Aura Camera and Driving Hazard Database (data connection required) with Google Maps integration. You can also set a speed warning with notifications when a customizable speed limit is exceeded.
When paired via Bluetooth with the Cobra iRadar detection hardware, the app gains additional functionality, serving as an auxiliary display for the detector, displaying the radar band and signal strength currently being sensed, helping the iRadar hardware to identify false-positive detections, and allowing users to mark their own road hazards for the benefit of subsequent trips and other drivers.
The Cobra iRadar app for Android is a free download in the Android Market. The Cobra iRadar detector will run you $125. Check out our full review for more details, just mentally substitute "Android OS" for "iOS" throughout.
