Champagne corks were popping all over the shop last night at the AOP Awards in London's Old Billingsgate, where CNET UK won a prize for the best use of video. Judges (intelligent, handsome fellows, no doubt) from industry body the Association of Online Publishers handed out the prize for our Car Tech series of videos, saying:
"Treating the car as the ultimate gadget -- a home for the latest, most innovative and stylish consumer technology -- it was clear from early on that Car Tech on CNET UK was ideally suited to an online video series.
"CBS Interactive produced something unique, stretching itself both creatively and technically in the process, and presenting the technology in the most visually exciting format possible.
"A combination of high production values, enthusiasm and expertise worked seamlessly together, using video to really bring out the personality of the site's writers. Original, fun and high-quality content, Car Tech is relevant to its audience, with a clear commercial underpinning."
It's the first time CNET UK has won an AOP award, so we're all chuffed to bits in the office. And horrifically hungover, but that's another story.
You can see the videos that so impressed the judges by clicking here, and watch our favourite Car Tech video below. Oh, and in case you were wondering, in the picture above, from left to right, are comedian and compere Hugh Dennis, Jason Jenkins, Ben Howard, Drew Stearne and the irrepressible Rory Reid, along with the event sponsor.
We've got epic plans for Car Tech in the next few months, so stay tuned for some equally fabulous coverage of cars from Jaguar, Porsche, Toyota, Citroen and Ford, to name just a few. Exciting times!
