Chrysler's top-secret Project D team is considering several options for a global midsize car, according to Motor Trend magazine. Among them:

-- Develop a new platform.

-- Use the platform of another automaker's car, such as the Nissan Altima or Fiat Croma.

-- "Go further with platform sharing, using a Fiat premium or Nissan firewall, A-pillar and windshield; kind of like VW's new Routan minivan, based on the Chrysler minivans."

Speaking at the Automotive Press Association luncheon in Detroit last week, Chrysler co-President Jim Press said that during the first eight months of its existence, the Project D team "went out and lived in the world." The team, formed in late 2007, is now sifting through that data, he said.

Press didn't volunteer any details.
