The current Bentley Continental's second generation has soldiered on for five model years, but it's not quite ready to throw in the towel. Instead, Bentley's given its coupe -- its fastest variant, specifically -- a bit of an upgrade, as well as a whole new trim level.
The Bentley Continental GT Speed's update focuses on its beating heart, a 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder engine. Output is bumped up to 633 horsepower and 619 pound-feet of torque, up from 626 hp and 604 pound-feet. That drops the 0-60 time to 3.9 seconds, when it was previously 4 flat.
Bentley did not update the GT Speed's interior or exterior kit to complement the newfound power, but the company is introducing a new GT Speed trim level, Black Edition.
Much as the name suggests, the new trim adds blacked-out trim, black wheels and contrast colors in a few places (rear diffuser, side skirts, front splitter). The interior features carbon-fiber trim pieces and contrasting-leather upholstery. It's a bit like Rolls-Royce's Black Badge treatment in that respect.
The current GT Speed starts at $239,400 or thereabouts, and while Bentley did not mention pricing, we'd bet dollars to donuts that uptick in power comes with a small uptick in price. The order books are open now, and deliveries begin this summer.
