For the annual Wörtherseetour in Europe, a gathering of VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda fans, Audi built a special version of its new A1 model. Audi replaced the standard turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with a turbocharged 2.5-liter five cylinder, the engine used in the TT RS. But taking it a step further, Audi engineers tuned up that powerplant, taking it from 315 to 503 horsepower. The result? 3.7 seconds to 62 mph.

This special A1, dubbed the A1 clubsport quattro, is a one-off, a performance concept showing what Audi can do with even its most unassuming model.

Although the standard A1 doesn't come with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system, the company added it for this special model. Other modifications include aero accessories and big vents in the hood.

The interior is stripped down to save weight, losing the back seat in favor of a crossbar to improve rigidity. It has none of Audi's excellent cabin electronics, and even the stereo speakers have been removed. The front seats come from the Audi R8 GT. Even the door handles have been replaced with cloth door pulls.

It seems unlikely that the A1 clubsport quattro will ever make an appearance in the U.S., as Audi has been resistant to the idea of selling the basic A1 model here. But diehard fans can virtually drive this concept on Need for Speed World, a free online version of the Need for Speed racing game. The A1 clubsport quattro will be available as a rental car in the game from June 1 to June 4.
