While themay not be getting a new heart, lesser Taurus models for the 2013 model year will see two new mills find in their list of available options.
First up is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that outputs 237 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. This is likely the same mill that will also find its way under the hood of the, albeit with a slightly less aggressive tune and a few fewer ponies. The object of the game here is efficiency, which Ford estimates at 31 mpg highway.
A naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 will be the standard engine option for the 2013 Taurus, outputting 27 more horsepower than the current generation for a total of 290 horsepower. In addition to being more powerful, the new engine is expected to be more efficient than the current lump thanks to the addition of twin independent variable camshaft timing.
Depending on the engine chosen, power will be sent through one of two six-speed automatic transmissions that send power to the front wheels. However, gear ratios will be optimized for each of the two engines and the EcoBoost 2.0-liter gets active warmup technology that that increases fuel economy during the first few miles of cold start driving. Both engine options will also feature auxiliary fuel-saving technologies such as electric power-assisted steering, a variable-displacement air conditioning compressor, smart battery management, and aggressive deceleration fuel shut-off.
