Fraternal twins: Nissan rolls out a half-ton Titan to complement the XD

Now that Nissan's Titan XD is finally on sale, it's seen fit to release details on a more traditional half-ton variant. The half-ton Titan bears a striking similarity to its heavier-duty sibling, but the two vehicles are actually quite different.

The Titan will be built on a completely separate chassis, and while the two have the same overall width, the half-ton's wheelbase is nearly a foot shorter. In fact, this dynamic duo shares zero chassis components.

The first engine on offer will be a 5.6-liter, eight-cylinder engine, putting out 390 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. A six-cylinder engine will join the half-ton lineup in the future. The Titan's power runs through a seven-speed automatic transmission before reaching either the rear or all four wheels, depending on your preference.

You can have your Titan in several different configurations. There are three different cabins (single cab, crew cab and "King Cab"), three different bed lengths (5.5, 6.5 and 8.0 feet) and five different trim levels (S, SV, PRO-4X, SL and Platinum).

While there's no word yet on pricing, Nissan says the half-ton Titan will reach dealerships this summer.
