Cars are Andrew's jam, as is strawberry. After spending years as a regular ol' car fanatic, he started working his way through the echelons of the automotive industry, starting out as social-media director of a small European-focused garage outside of Chicago. From there, he moved to the editorial side, penning several written features in Total 911 Magazine before becoming a full-time auto writer, first for a local Chicago outlet and then for CNET Cars.

Mel Brooks said it best: It's good to be the king. Not only do you get a whole kingdom at your disposal, you also have enough money to afford what might be Mercedes-Benz's most posh convertible ever, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet.

Whereas the Maybach S600 sedan is a stretched version of a traditional S-Class sedan, the S650 Cabriolet keeps the same dimensions, but radically ramps up the fancy. There are some new exterior aesthetic bits, like extra chrome trim and Maybach badges out the wazoo, but the real treat lies inside.

The interior is where the Maybach name comes alive. The trim is commissioned individually for each vehicle, and it covers the convertible top compartment, the door panels and instrument panels. It's meant to resemble a yacht, and not just because it probably costs nearly as much as one. Again, Maybach badges are everywhere, including the seats.

Under the hood lies a 6.0-liter V12 engine, the only S-Class convertible to rock a 12-cylinder engine aside from the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet. It puts out a whopping 621 horsepower and a pavement-warping 738 pound-feet of torque. Because even the rich need limits, the top speed is set to 155 miles per hour. Air suspension is standard, as is rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Your purchase also includes a fabric car cover that matches your soft top's color, and a matching travel luggage set, because clearly the car isn't enough to make the buyer feel special.

Only 300 examples will be built, 75 of which will come to the US. Stateside buyers have but three color options for the car. The first is a red exterior, porcelain/black interior and a black soft top. The second is a blue exterior, porcelain/saddle brown interior and a beige soft top. Rounding out the color choices is a white exterior, porcelain/blue interior and a dark blue soft top. I'm quite partial to the last one, but since my bank account is not equal to the GDP of a small nation, it doesn't really matter, now does it?

Why wouldn't the bags match the car?
