The Wiko Wax delivers Tegra 4i, a 5-megapixel front camera, and hits Europe in April (hands-on)
French manufacturer Wiko is set to release one of the first Tegra 4i devices. An Android phone called the Wax.

BARCELONA, Spain -- French phone developer Wiko will be one of the first out of the gate with an Nvidia Tegra 4i-based device. Its Wiko Wax smartphone will hit European markets sometime this April. No word yet on price or if the phone will eventually be available in the US.

The Wax looks and feels like typical Android phone fare; black, moderately thin, but also light. The phone will ship with Android 4.3 initially, but Nvidia tells me it will be upgraded to 4.4 soon after.
The specs are also squarely mainstream: 4.7-inch screen, 1,280x800 resolution. Also, the Tegra 4i inside isn't quite as powerful as a normal Tegra 4 -- only 60 GPU cores as opposed the Tegra 4's 72.

That said, the front camera is an impressively high 5 megapixels, while the back sits at 8 megapixels.
The LTE phone was pretty responsive to swipes, and dutifully progressed through screen of apps. It also ran Real Boxing with a smooth playable frame rate.
If Wiko can release the Wax at an affordable price, I could see this being a success, given Tegra 4i's power and the high resolution front camera. Did someone say, "best selfies ever!"? No? Good.
