Toshiba 55WL700A
The Toshiba 55WL700A is a 55-inch LED backlit TV, which streams media and YouTube and includes a pair of glasses for 3D playback.
Things have been relatively quiet for Toshiba this year, especially considering that its competitors have been trumpeting features like IPTV and 3D for most of it. Well, now it's time for Toshiba to get its own back, and just in time for Christmas!
Toshiba has launched two televisions, the 46-inch 46WL700A (AU$3299) and the 55-inch 55WL700A (AU$4199), with a feature set that promises to mix it with the big kids. These are LED-backlit televisions that offer an edge-to-edge "frameless" design.
The WL700s offer streaming capabilities from DLNA-compatible devices in addition to YouTube, but unusually the TVs can also stream to other TVs in the house. The file formats they support include DivX HD, MKV, HD JPG, MP3 and MP4.
The TVs include 3D capabilities and come with a single pair of glasses — with extra pairs costing AU$99 each. In concert with this, the models have a function called Intelligent 3D, which automatically compensates for the loss for brightness and colour perception usually associated with 3D glasses.
The Toshiba devices incorporate several picture processing systems including: Resolution+ for upscaling SD sources; Autoview, which responds to lighting conditions to adjust picture settings; and a 200Hz mode.
Lastly, the TVs come with two USB ports for media playback in addition to four HDMI connectors.
