Samsung announces price for its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

Samsung is taking preorders for its first 4K Blu-ray player, which will be available for $399.

Samsung has unveiled pricing in Las Vegas on one of the first Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray players, the Samsung UBD-K8500.

Samsung is currently taking preorders on its website for $399 with the device due to ship in March 2016. (No pricing was announced for the UK or Australia, but the US figure converts to about £270 and AU$550.) The full retail price is expected to be $499 (£ 340, AU$700).

The product was announced at IFA 2015 and is designed to play the next generation of optical disks, which are designed to offer better colors, higher contrast and four times the resolution of standard HD Blu-rays.

Panasonic announced its own Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player at CES 2015 but will wait until later in 2016 to release it.
