Olympus is well known for the rugged nature of its Tough camera series, and the TG-610 follows in the same manner — with a bit of a twist for Australian buyers.
To help cement its credentials as a waterproof, go-anywhere camera, Olympus has teamed with Quiksilver to brand the casing with the surfing company's logo. The camera is the same as the TG-610 that is making its way to shelves across the world: waterproof to 5m, shockproof to 1.5m and freeze proof to -10 degrees Celsius.
Thankfully, Olympus has decided to increase the resolution of the 3-inch screen to 920,000 dots, putting it on par with even the top-end digital compact cameras.
Behind the 5x optical zoom lens is a 14-megapixel sensor and dual-image stabilisation. To keep up with the Joneses (and the Sonys and the Fujifilms), Olympus has kitted out this camera with a 3D photo mode, which snaps two photos of a scene from different angles, then puts them together to create a 3D image. HD video and HDMI output features too, and so does Eye-Fi card compatibility which means you can transfer images via Wi-Fi.
The limited edition Quiksilver-branded camera will be available from the pop-up shop at Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast from 26 February to 9 March and then from regular camera stores after that. Pricing is yet to be announced.
