Konnet makes a few different versions of its Power Pyramid charging docks, including one that's designed to charge four wireless Xbox 360 controllers at one time and one that charges four PS3 controllers (which only come in a wireless version). However, the model reviewed here is the only one that charges both wireless Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers. That duality obviously has some appeal to gamers who own both systems and don't want to invest in two separate charging systems.

Konnet PS3 and Xbox 360 Power Pyramid (charging and storage dock for game controllers)

The Good

Charges both Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers; doubles as a storage stand for your controllers.

The Bad

Somewhat pricey for what it is.

The Bottom Line

While we wished it cost a bit less, the Konnet PS3 and Xbox 360 Power Pyramid is a solid gaming accessory that will appeal to dual-console owners.

Wireless Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers can be charged via USB, but a dedicated charger like the Power Pyramid eliminates cable clutter (there's only a single AC adapter) and allows you to charge controllers without having the respective game consoles turned on. Like many other charging stations, what's nice about the Power Pyramid is that it also doubles as a storage stand for your controllers.

As for the look of the unit, it's not exactly high design (it's largely made of plastic), but it's functional and doesn't take up too much space. If you have black Xbox 360 controllers, you get an all-black aesthetic going, which gives the Power Pyramid an even cleaner look. We also liked how the two blue LEDs light up at the top of the pyramid when you're charging the PS3 controllers (there's also a red LED that lights up at the connection point).

For some reason none of the LEDs lit up when we were just charging the Xbox 360 controller. But the green ring on the Xbox 360 controller was pulsating, so we knew it was charging. PS3 controllers take about 3 hours to charge, and 360 controllers take about 6 hours. (Konnet says there's an "Intelligent Protection System" built into the charger that helps you avoid over-charging).

Aside from the mysterious LED situation, we had one other gripe: the price. The PS3/Xbox 360 Power Pyramid lists for $50, which just seems a bit high. We like to see these types of third-party chargers

Hopefully, we'll see a few bucks shaved off it, because at the right price, it's an appealing accessory that should find a market with dual-console owners. Now if Konnet would only add slots for Wii controller charging, you'd have the ultimate charging dock for multi-console households.
