Bosch bets big on smaller kitchen appliances

Forget those massive mega-capacity refrigerators, Bosch has just introduced a sleek 24-inch glass door model to its lineup.

Downsizing a fridge typically means that you're forced to downgrade to a bland hunk of white or black plastic, but Bosch's new $2,500 luxury-inspired 24-inch glass door models present an interesting alternative.

Drawing heavily from European design, the counter-depth, handle-free Bosch 800 Series looks decidedly minimalist. And instead of the traditional compact fridge finishes, this premium lineup is available in tempered black or white glass or stainless steel with a glass overlay.

Inside it has LEDs and 10 cubic feet of storage. The top fridge comes with a fruit/vegetable drawer and a spot especially for your wine, while the bottom freezer features three drawers. Since most "full-size" refrigerators in the US today have at least 18 or so cubic feet of space, Bosch's glass door units are definitely on the small side -- but that's kind of the point.

Bosch pictures its pricey 800 series in small apartments with small kitchens or as secondary storage options for your basement bar or mother-in-law suite.

The $2,500 24-Inch Glass Door Refrigerator (model number B10CB80NVS for the stainless on glass finish) is available for purchase now, but Bosch has plans in the works for rest of your kitchen as well. It expects to add electric and gas cooktops and a wall oven to the lineup soon.
