CNET Editors' Rating

The Good Comfortable; unobtrusive; good sound quality.

The Bad No integrated answer/end button; tube earpiece has a tendency to fall off when it's stored in a pocket or bag.

The Bottom Line The Earlite 640 has a uniquely designed tubular earpiece that some will love and others will find irksome.

7.0 Overall

With its ear-tube sound-delivery system, Sybersay's Earlite 640 looks like a device that a secret service agent could wear. While we liked its design and ergonomics, some may prefer a more conventional earpiece. Spy gear
Unlike headsets that have a boom microphone integrated into the cord, SyberSay headsets have the microphone set into the earpiece housing. The unit is relatively easy to slip on and off; the main portion of the unit wraps around your ear and you simply guide the flexible tube earpiece into the entrance of your ear canal (three extra tubes are included).

SyberSay says you'll barely notice you're wearing the headset, and it's true. After you get over the initial awkwardness of having a tube sticking in your ear (this isn't as bad as it sounds), you almost forget it's there. The Earlite 640 is indeed quite light and inconspicuous. Whether you think this earpiece is more comfortable than the step-down is a personal decision. As with the 540, you can wear glasses with the Earlite 640.

Good acoustics
SyberSay says that like the Earlite 540, the Earlite 640 has a "patented acoustic bubble design" that helps reduce background noise. All in all, we were pretty pleased with the sound quality. As with the 540, callers voices sounded clear and loud. On their end, callers said they could hear us well, though we weren't as loud, and at times, there was a slight echo. In the end, we could not discern a noticeable difference between the acoustic quality of the 640 and 540.

The Earlite 640 has a list price of $49.99, which makes it one of the more expensive headsets available. Though it has a unique and advanced design, we wish it were a bit less expensive and had an integrated answer/end button.
