Bunn's new coffee maker brews for better taste

According to Bunn, its latest coffee machine will make fantastic drip on demand.

Brian Bennett/CNET

Want great drip coffee at home but don't want to shell out for a luxury brewer? The new $150 Bunn 10-cup Programmable Coffeemaker is worth a look. Even though it has a lower price than the popular Bonavita BV-1900TS, Bunn claims it performs in line with the Specialty Coffee Association of America's stringent "golden cup" standard.

This Bunn coffee maker has an hourglass shape like many other coffee makers do, most notably the Behmor Brazen. Also like the Brazen and the Oxo Barista Brain 12-cup, the Bunn machine needs to heat its water to the correct temperature before coffee brewing begins.

That means you'll be waiting 6 minutes or so longer than you do with the Bonavita and Technivorm Moccamaster brewers or you would with Breville's upcoming Precision Brewer Thermal, all of which heat water during brewing.
