A first for everything
ZTE may not be well-known within the U.S., but the Chinese handset manufacturer is hoping that will change. Its Salute, available on Verizon's network, is ZTE's first cell phone offering in the United States with a tier-one carrier.
Vertical slider
The Salute is a good-looking device, with a black-and-silver motif, rounded corners, and a vertical slider that reveals a dialpad. Inside, however, the features are decidedly entry-level. There are the usual tools like a clock and calendar, plus Bluetooth, SMS, and MMS. Verizon also appends its stock voice command app and subscription-based VZ Navigator.
Camera action
The ZTE Salute comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, which is on the low-end overall, but fairly typical of entry-level and midrange cell phones. The small vanity mirror is a plus, though.
In profile
Hardware buttons on the Salute include dedicated camera and speakerphone buttons, a 2.5 millimeter headset jack, a volume rocker, and a Micro-USB charger port.
