Zagat revamped for Android, now free (pictures)
Google recently rebuilt its Zagat app for Android. We take a look at the app and how it compares with popular restaurant-reviews service Yelp.
Google+ required
In order to get started using Zagat, you must have a Google+ account.
Listing page
The restaurant page is no doubt useful, but Zagat's listings are nowhere near as comprehensive as Yelp's. Restaurant pages could certainly use some more user-uploaded photos, at the very least.
Search nearby, sort of
The Search Nearby function focuses on your current GPS location. However, as you can see by this coffeehouse located almost 27 miles away, it's a bit unclear what actually qualifies as "nearby."
Filter by features
There are dozens of ways to filter your search results. Unfortunately, by Wi-Fi access isn't one of them.
Filter by score
This nifty filter lets you search according to scores across Zagat's three main categories: Food, Decor, and Service.
That's good to know
The Good to Know section gives bits of information such as a restaurant's signature dishes.
Add your own review
From the Android app, you can upload your own restaurant review to Zagat. The service multiplies your score by 10, adds it to the others, and averages it to contribute to the overall ratings.
