Xiaomi Mi Mix is a phone that's all about the display

The China-only concept-but-real phone will be produced in limited quantities, but features impressive looks and tech to make it work.

Xiaomi's newest phone, the Mi Mix, is crazy futuristic. Designed with the assistance of French designer Philippe Starck, the Mix is all 6.4-inch screen and very little bezel. It's crazy how Xiaomi has managed to achieve this, and it's certainly impressive.

The phone will be available in China on November 4 and will come in two models. One, housing 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, will retail for 3,499 yuan, which converts to about $510, AU$680 or £420. A premium model with 18k gold embossing and 256GB onboard storage will cost 3,999 yuan. That's approximately $590, AU$770 or £480.

As mentioned, the phone is all screen, and Xiaomi says the screen-to-body ratio is 91 percent. The only bezel you'll see is right at the bottom of the phone. The front speaker is gone and Xiaomi is using a piezoelectric ceramic actuator hidden beneath the screen to deliver sound to your ear. The proximity sensor has been replaced with an ultrasound sensor.

The rear is made of ceramic, and the shiny luster of the phone certainly draws the eye. And yes, it has a headphone jack.

The bottom of the phone features what appear to be dual speakers.

Because it wouldn't be a phone without a selfie camera, the Mix has a front-facing 5-megapixel shooter at the bottom right corner. It's an awkward location, to be honest.

If you're wondering how the Mix will look when being held normally, here's a clue. It's a pretty big phone, but Xiaomi says the phone will have palm rejection so you won't accidentally activate something while holding it.

The phone is 7.9mm thick, though it feels a lot slimmer.

The rear 16-megapixel camera doesn't have the highest megapixel count, but it should get the job done. Below camera is the fingerprint sensor that comes standard on most phones these days.

The phone will also feature the words, "designed by Mi" instead of the usual logo at the back.
