God of War
Forget Sony executives taking the stage. The first thing the audience saw at the PlayStation presser was a grizzled Kratos from God of War.
God of War
The next instalment of the franchise from Santa Monica Studio showed the Spartan warrior in the woods with a young boy, teaching him how to hunt.
God of War
It's a pity that most hunting trips are ruined by monstrous horned beasts.
God of War
The visuals we saw during the live play-through were pretty spectacular, and the audience was clearly loving the return of a well-known her0 in a new action-adventure style.
A few solemn words...
President of Sony Interactive Entertainment America Shawn Layden started his keynote by acknowledging the mass shooting in Orlando over the weekend.
"On behalf of the PlayStation community, I just want to say that our thoughts are with the victims and the families and the community of Orlando," he said.
"We stand foursquare with them, and we hope that in this week of our gaming celebrations, within the diversity of our gaming community, we can find some strength, some comfort and some solace."
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Sony had plenty of new games to show off in LA. First up was Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. All the first-person shooter action that you know and love, now set in space.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
The intergalactic shoot-em-up was a hit with the audience at the presser, with the action moving between enemy stations and the zero-gravity world of space. It was almost serene, despite all the explosions.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
The action saw our hero blowing up enemy space stations from his Jackal starfighter...
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
...Before getting amongst the action in his space suit and aiming down sights at his foes (whilst floating carefree in space).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
And if you still didn't get enough CoD for your liking, you'll soon be able to get your hands on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is being remastered for fans.
PlayStation VR
Sony's eagerly anticipated PlayStation VR got a price and and October 13 release date (hello Christmas present!) and we also got a first glimpse at a number of the VR experiences Sony has in the works.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Horror is coming to VR and we are terrified. Things kicked off with a nod to Sony's horror VR experience, Kitchen (there were audible shouts from the crowd of, "No! Not Kitchen!") But soon, we realised it was a teaser trailer for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Half of the crowd clearly couldn't wait to dive in to Resident Evil in VR. The other half were getting thrown off by jump-scares of creepy mannequins.
Star Wars X-Wing VR Mission
We'd know that spaceship anywhere...
Star Wars X-Wing VR Mission
PlayStation VR will get its own interactive X-Wing Mission to give you the chance to fulfill all your fandom fantasies and live inside the "Star Wars" galaxy far, far away as part of Star Wars: Battlefront.
Batman Arkham VR
Sony teased a trailer (narrated by Mark Hamill as the Joker, of course) of a Batman VR experience. The game, made by Rocksteady Studios, will be exclusive to PlayStation VR.
Farpoint
Our pick for VR graphics that leave you in awe was the space shooter Farpoint.
Farpoint
Sony's teaser trailer of Farpoint showed us the kind of space western landscapes we've come to expect from big-screen cinema releases.
Farpoint
But make no mistake, Farpoint also has its fair share of explosions and action. We should have known all those serene landscapes were lulling us into a false sense of security.
Final Fantasy XV in VR
Final Fantasy is getting its own VR 'experience' where you'll get to play as Prompto.
Final Fantasy XV
For those gamers that want to avoid the risk of motion sickness after too many forays into the Final Fantasy VR world, Final Fantasy XV is also coming to a PlayStation near you this September
Detroit: Becoming Human
One of our favourite trailers of the show, Detroit: Becoming Human is a new venture from French indie studio Quantic Dream. Think of it as LA Noire with androids.
Detroit: Becoming Human
Detroit: Becoming Human not only takes a page from the "Blade Runner" look book, but it has the same "Android with a conscience" message -- you'll need to make life or death decisions and determine whether your 'droid has a moral compass.
Horizon Zero Dawn
After an appearance at E3 in 2015, Horizon Zero Dawn was back, combining beautiful landscapes with epic woman-vs-machine battles.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Another demonstration of killer graphics in action, the Guerilla Games title got an extended gameplay trailer at the presser.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Our fearless protagonist took us through the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, hunting dinosaur-like robots and scavenging them for parts.
Crash Sky-Landicoot
Crash is back (yes, that music had us regressing back to school days, too). But this time, he's diving into the world of Skylanders to give kids a hyper-coloured adrenaline rush on their consoles.
Skylanders
The new Skylanders world has all the hallmarks of the cartoonish Crash universe. But for this reboot, you'll also be able to design your own character and bring it to life within the game.
Days Gone
The Sony Presser wrapped up with an extended live playthrough of Days Gone. And nothing really says "days gone" like a guy riding with his girl, only to find himself soon facing hoards of mindless zombies.
Days Gone
There's no doubt Days Gone was giving us a really strong Last of Us vibe, hearkening back to the graphics and gameplay of the Sony's other survival-horror exclusive.
Days Gone
Set two years after a "devastating global pandemic" Days Gone follows Deacon St. John (there's a post-apocalyptic moniker if we ever heard one). Fight through the badlands, pick up a gun and don't be distracted by the monsters trying to grab your ankles.
Spider-Man
Another fan favourite making an appearance at the Sony event was Spider-Man, thanks to a PlayStation exclusive from the team at Insomniac.
