Western Digital WD TV Play (pictures)

I have held a personal fondness for WD TV boxes since the release of the original streamer in late 2008. Each model has improved markedly on the last and the newest WD TV Play is the best of the bunch.

The interface is clean, setup is a breeze, and playback during our testing was glitch-free. If you are looking for a streamer that offers the best mix of cloud streaming and DLNA/home network playback, and you're not tied to the Apple ecosystem, then this is the best player for the money.

The remote features ergonomic indentations, making it comfortable to hold.

The remote has been upgraded from the version that came with the WD TV Live and now has better buttons and customizable shortcuts.

Connections include HDMI, a composite AV breakout, USB, optical digital, Gigabit Ethernet, and Wireless-N.

The reset button is positioned under the device.

The "My Favorites" screen houses all of your most-used apps.

Your favorites can be moved, added, or removed easily with the Option button.

Spotify and Pandora are the highlights of the music apps.

The device supports DLNA playback with a wide variety of formats including MKV, WAV, FLAC, AAC, and MP4.
