LAS VEGAS--WD showed off at CES 2013 two solid-state hard drives, the WD Black 5mm and WD Black 7mm. These are the first hybrid drives from the storage vendor.
From left: the WD Blue 1TB regular hard drive, WD Black SSHD, and WD Blue 5mm regular drive.
The two 5mm thick and 7mm thick drives next to each other.
The WD Black SSHD 5mm has a new standard of port connecter and will not work with existing SATA ports in most laptop computers. It's designed specifically for ultrabooks.
The new port type.
The WD Black 7mm SSHD, however, has a standard design of the 2.5-inch laptop drive, including its SATA connector.
And the drive is 7mm thick, fitting any standard laptop, and can also be used for desktop computers.
