Up close with the slim, metal Huawei P8 (pictures)

The P8's 5.2-inch full HD display is set into an all-metal body without any seams. As Huawei puts it, the design combines "elements of ancient manuscripts, illuminated books and the essence of sunlight in stained glass library windows." Mhmm.

The P8 Max is essentially the same as the P8, but just larger at 6.8 inches.

The P8 comes in gold (pictured here), black and silver.

With no physical controls you'll be relying only on virtual keys.

The 13-megapixel camera sits in the top left corner of the P8's backside. The rear shooter is supposed to have sensors to improve low-light shots.

As the rear cover isn't removable, the SIM card slot and microSD slot rest on the right spine below the power control and volume rocker.

The Micro-USB port sits between the speakers. That's your port for charging and syncing the phone with a computer.

The P8 runs on Android Lollipop, the latest version of Google's software.

The settings menu has the Lollipop design.

The icon-based menus won't be confusing to anyone who's used a smartphone before.

The rear side of the phone is one shiny sheet of metal.

From the back the P8 and P8 Max do look slightly different.

Internal storage varies by model -- on the P8 it starts at 16GB.
