Unboxing the PlayStation Vita: photos

We got our hands on a PlayStation Vita, and took it out of the box for your viewing pleasure. Read on for sample photos from the camera and more.

The PlayStation Vita has finally arrived in our office, so the first thing we did was rip open the box to show you what's inside.

Our sister site GameSpot AU got the first glimpse of the Vita, which will be available in Australia from 22 February 2012. For more coverage on the Vita, see our video unboxing and interface tour.

The box that the PlayStation Vita comes in is fairly modest in size, opting for the pancake approach of being long and wide, as opposed to short and thick. It's rather regular and unassuming, with a simple "PSVita" emblazoned on the outside. The font selection prompted one of our co-workers to quip that some Aussies might mistake this as a "PS Weeta". Or a Vita Weat, either way.

When you open your PlayStation Vita box, you're greeted by a nice little welcome card and the instruction manual.

Aside from the PlayStation Vita console, the only accessories you'll find are a wall charger and USB cable in the box.

This is a close-up look at the rear touch pad, featuring a neat PlayStation pattern on the back of the unit. Note the groove on the left, which helps make the console easier to grip.

The PlayStation Vita is quite a large unit, seen here side by side with an iPhone 4S.

As you can see here, the PlayStation Vita is thinner than the original PlayStation Portable, but still much thicker than an iPhone.

While the camera on the PlayStation Vita is competent, don't go expecting to be able to blow these images up.
